Bulldozer at San Diego Sector USA Border

Construction has started in San Diego, CA building President Trump’s wall and the legions of Anti-Wall, Anti-Trump, and the Never-Trump groups appear to be missing or just resigned to the fact that the Wall along the Mexico border is being built, as promised during his 2016 campaign to become the President of the USA.

This is Part one of a three-part exposé centering on the USA-Mexico border wall, the politics of it and the funding piece.  We will look at opposing viewpoints for or against the wall.  We will investigate and report on funding for the wall and most aspects of this roughly 1954-mile border.

June 1, 2018, San Diego, CA. along the US-Mexico Border. The Wall is being built in stages now, and the funding source for the constructions hasn’t been disclosed.   The Trump administration has vowed that a “glorious wall” will be built to keep out illegal immigrants and it appears that the construction started on Friday with little or no fanfare. Bulldozers started leveling out the area for for the site construction.

The official agency announcing the construction is the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), too many of us, it is just known as the Border Patrol.  The CPB reports that it is replacing a 1990 era metal barrier that was constructed using recycled metals.  The fence is approximately 8-10 feet tall with barbed wire running the length of the top.  The CBP calls it a barrier, which was constructed using Viet Nam era “recycled scraps of metal and old landing mat steel plates,”

The barrier is being replaced with a “bollard-style wall” that will be approximately double the height of the existing fence and will have an anti-climbing plate system.  The plate was not described.

The barrier being replaced worked effectively, the agency reported that the “cross-border threat has increased” and now the old materials needed to be replaced.

While many believe that the construction represents the first section of the wall it is not. Projects have started and are underway in building a total of twenty-two miles of wall in both California and New Mexico.  In Calexico, California two miles is under construction, and in Santa Teresa, N.M. an additional 20 miles of Wall is being built, the CBP said.

“Not only does it significantly upgrade our existing infrastructure in San Diego, it also marks the third concurrent wall project in the U.S. and reflects CBP’s unwavering commitment to secure our borders and protect our Nation,” Vitiello continued. “Under this President’s leadership, we have a renewed commitment to secure our border,” said Ronald Vitiello, CBP’s acting deputy commissioner. “The new primary wall project represents an important milestone in our work to secure the international border.”

“The construction of this new substantial wall will improve overall border security, the safety and effectiveness of Border Patrol agents, the safety of the public, and will enhance the atmosphere for business and commerce in the area,” said Rodney Scott, chief patrol agent for the San Diego Sector.

It should be noted that there has been almost no show of protest at the construction site in San Diego.  One may have expected protestors at the site and untold numbers and categories of lawyers in Federal Courts trying to stop the construction.

“The construction of this new substantial wall will improve overall border security, the safety and effectiveness of Border Patrol agents, the safety of the public, and will enhance the atmosphere for business and commerce in the area,” said Rodney Scott, chief patrol agent for the San Diego sector.
